Homes were evacuated after police investigating the discovery of human remains uncovered a suspicious substance at a property in Liverpool.
Merseyside Police said officers found a “quantity of white powder” at a house on Douglas Road in Anfield at around 14:30 GMT on Sunday while carrying out forensic work.
The force confirmed the search was linked to an ongoing investigation into human remains discovered last month at a flat in Gerrards Court, St Helens.
Douglas Road was closed and several nearby properties were cleared as a precaution while specialist officers assessed the material.
A police spokeswoman said the bomb disposal unit removed the powder and transported it to an open area, where it was safely destroyed in a controlled explosion.
Residents were thanked for their cooperation and patience during the operation.
A 65-year-old man has since been charged in connection with the discovery of human remains in St Helens.
