Galatasaray Eye Juventus Midfielder Teun Koopmeiners Amid Champions League Clash
Galatasaray are reportedly monitoring Teun Koopmeiners as potential summer business, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, even as the Turkish side prepares to face Juventus in the return leg of the UEFA Champions League playoffs.
Koopmeiners, 27, impressed briefly in the first leg by scoring a brace but has otherwise struggled to justify the nearly €60M investment, including bonuses and a high salary, that Juventus made when signing him from Atalanta. He has been deployed in multiple positions, including occasional stints at centre-back, but his goal contributions remain limited, making him a backup option when the squad is at full strength.
Galatasaray could provide Juventus with a route to recoup part of their outlay if the Dutch midfielder is made available. The Serie A club’s current management and coaching staff have yet to fully commit to him, meaning a properly structured bid would likely be considered.
While Koopmeiners has shown flashes of his previous form at Atalanta, he has yet to consistently perform at that level in Turin. Juventus would need to secure around €40M to avoid a financial loss, making any potential deal challenging. For Galatasaray, he represents a fallback target in case Hakan Çalhanoğlu remains at Inter Milan.
The situation remains one to watch as both clubs navigate Champions League commitments and future transfer plans.
